About James

James Pomerantz is a New York-based photographer and a former editor at Food & Wine magazine and The New Yorker. 

He has been extensively published in print and has worked for clients including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Monocle, The London Sunday Times Magazine, Action Against Hunger, and Ogilvy PR.  

His work has been recognized by organizations including World Press Foundation, Open Society Foundations, PDN and The Magenta Foundation. 

His photos have exhibited both domestically and internationally, including at Bonni Benrubi Gallery, Griffin Photo Museum, the Soros Foundation and The National Portrait Gallery in London, UK; and are held in museum collections including New Orleans Museum of Art, University of New Mexico Museum of Art, and San Antonio Art Museum.  

James holds a bachelor's degree from Columbia University, a master's degree from School of Visual Arts and once upon a time he graduated from New York's Institute of Culinary Education (then Peter Kump's New York Cooking School) and worked in various New York kitchens.  

He lives in Westchester with his wife, two children and dog and spends his time working on assignments, teaching, shooting personal photo projects and smoking meats.
