The New Yorker's A to Z of NY Food: L is for Little Odessa

доброе утро! This is @jamespomerantz with Day Four of my A to Z of New York Food for The New Yorker. Today we’re starting off with L IS FOR LITTLE ODESSA! Better known as Brighton Beach, this Brooklyn neighborhood is no longer identified as just Ukranian Jewish but as a greater Russian-speaking post-Soviet states enclave. It's conveniently located just down the beach from Coney Island, the location of my F is for Frankfurter entry. Visit in the summer and sit outside at a boardwalk restaurant for some borscht and homemade kvass, the fermented drink made from rye bread. Make the trip in winter and fill up on a hot bowl of Uzbek lagman noodle soup and grilled lamb ribs. If you need a bottle of vodka shaped like an AK-47 (and who doesn't), this is where you’ll find it. Share your L Food/Drink photos with #TNYeats. #brooklyn #newyork #food.
