The New Yorker's A to Z of NY Food: S is for Sabering

S IS FOR SABERING! There was a time not too long ago that if someone mentioned a tattooed guy on Bowery wielding a sword, you would have steered clear. Now the chances are that the sword-swinging somebody is sommelier @patrickwine of @pearlandashnyc restaurant opening a bottle of bubbles with a big ass blade in front of a packed house. Patrick, formerly the besuited Wine Director of Gilt restaurant, traded in his two-piece for a t-shirt and is representative of a more approachable, affordable and fun wine world. Patrick can still wax poetic about the Comtes Lafon on his wine list for over $2,000 but he’s even more passionate about the far more numerous wines he has for under $40. Any night is a great night for champagne but I can think of few nights more suitable for sabering than Halloween. #wine #sabertownusa #food #newyork. Tag your S Food/Drink photos with #TNYeats for the universe to see! Photo: @jamespomerantz.
