The New Yorker's A to Z of NY Food: Y is for Yakitori

Y IS FOR YAKITORI! Of all the traditional foods on sticks, yakitori is my favorite. Japanese for “grilled chicken,” yakitori is technically just that, skewers of various parts of chicken grilled over charcoal. Most yakitori-ya in NYC also serve other meats, seafood and vegetables on skewers too. Thankfully, there is now a range of yakitori-ya in NYC. If you’re looking for some late night sticks of chicken skin, bacon with asparagus or shrimp to go with copious amounts of Japanese beer, head to Yakitori Taisho on St Marks Place, open late into the night. Or check out Michelin-starred Torishin on the Upper East Side for a more refined yakitori experience. For those of us in Brooklyn, Bar Chuko in Prospect Heights has a good selection of skewers to keep us satisfied. #japanese #newyork #food. #TNYeats Photo: @jamespomerantz
